HOW CONSENSUS IS USED (this is the interesting part) ---------------------------------------------------- The non-deterministic block receives ONE filing and the NUMBERED conditions, and returns a bitmask: one digit per condition, 1 if this filing demonstrates it. Not a score, not a verdict - a set membership per fixed row. The audit is hard. Read a report, decide which of ten specific conditions it actually demonstrates rather than merely mentions. The thing that crosses consensus is a string of ones and zeros. The block runs the question TWICE: once with the conditions in their frozen order, once with the list reversed and renumbered. A model that leans on position marks different rows in the two passes. A bit stands only if BOTH passes raised it, so every disagreement lands on 0, the conservative value. Nothing records that the passes disagreed: a flag like that is a fact about the sampling rather than the filing, it is true exactly when two honest nodes are least likely to agree, and the value already carries the uncertainty. The validator has two layers: 1. STRUCTURAL HONESTY, checked for free. The mask must have exactly one digit per frozen condition and nothing but ones and zeros in it. Checked before any inference is spent on it. 2. EXACT EQUALITY ON THE WHOLE MASK. The validator runs both passes itself and the masks must match exactly. WHY IT IS NOT A THIN LLM WRAPPER -------------------------------- The model never decides whether the milestone is met. It answers up to ten yes/no questions about one document. Swap in a worse model and the mechanism still works: it demonstrates fewer conditions, which is the correct response to a worse model. ONE WAY, WITH ONE EXCEPTION --------------------------- Auditing can only add bits. A condition once demonstrated by a filing stands for as long as that filing stands. The ONLY way down is the curator striking a filing: the row stays, marked, and standing is recomputed from what remains. A standing that a noisy later read could silently lower would not be worth paying out against. Striking is also how the curator contains a keeper it no longer trusts: relieving stops new filings, and striking takes what that keeper already filed out of the standing. STORAGE, AND WHY THE ROWS ARE LINKED ------------------------------------ GenVM forbids a collection inside a storage dataclass, so every child row lives in one flat array with a parent id on it. The obvious way to find a gate's rows is to scan the whole array, and that cost grows with every OTHER gate on the contract. Instead each row carries the index of the next row with the same parent, and the parent carries its first and last.
