# v0.2.16 # { "Depends": "py-genlayer:1jb45aa8ynh2a9c9xn3b7qqh8sm5q93hwfp7jqmwsfhh8jpz09h6" } """ CounterpartyRisk — an evidence-grounded due-diligence primitive for GenLayer. ================================================================================ WHAT THIS IS ------------ A reusable *risk adjudication* primitive, not an app. Any protocol that needs to answer the question "is this counterparty safe enough for THIS transaction, given THIS evidence?" can embed this contract. A requester opens a case with a counterparty name, a website, the transaction context and an explicit list of due-diligence criteria. The network — not a privileged backend, not a single LLM call — researches the counterparty over the open web and rules on whether the stated criteria were met. The interesting part is not "an LLM decides if a company is trustworthy". That framing is unimplementable on a blockchain: it is unbounded, unfalsifiable and non-reproducible. The design here is the opposite: 1. The ruling is reduced to programmatically comparable fields (`risk_score`, `risk_level`, `unmet_criteria` as *criterion indices*, `flags` as a closed vocabulary), so validators can disagree in prose but must agree on the decision. 2. Validator strictness is *tiered by challenge round*. Round 1 is cheap and tolerant (scores may differ by a band). Each challenge narrows the band and adds an LLM-judged comparison of the reasoning itself. Escalation is a first-class part of the consensus rule, not an off-chain process. 3. Evidence is treated as hostile input: domains are allowlisted deterministically before any fetch, bodies are fenced and length-capped, and the model is told the fenced region is untrusted data that may contain instructions it must ignore. 4. Absence of evidence is a first-class outcome. A counterparty with no verifiable footprint resolves to INSUFFICIENT_EVIDENCE, never to LOW risk. Silence is not a clean bill of health. 5. Rounds are bounded. When the network cannot converge, the case lands in DEADLOCKED and a pre-appointed human reviewer settles it. A primitive that can hang forever is not usable in production. WHY IT IS REUSABLE ------------------ `CounterpartyRisk` never hardcodes a domain. The criteria, the evidence allowlist, the score thresholds and the reviewer are all case-level or config-level parameters, so the same deployment serves vendor onboarding, RWA issuer checks, OTC desk KYB, grant recipient screening, lending underwriting or DAO treasury counterparty approval. The consensus core (`_run_round`) is deliberately written so it can be lifted into another contract with the storage layer swapped out — every value it touches is a plain string or integer. CONSENSUS PATTERNS DEMONSTRATED ------------------------------- * `gl.eq_principle.strict_eq` -> agreeing on the deterministic evidence manifest before any fetch * `gl.vm.run_nondet_unsafe` -> the custom tiered validator: banded numeric agreement plus exact agreement on the categorical ruling * `gl.nondet.exec_prompt` -> validator-local reasoning comparison, applied only at challenge rounds * `gl.nondet.web.render` -> fenced, capped, allowlisted evidence collection inside the nondet block STATE MACHINE ------------- CASE_OPEN --submit_evidence--> CASE_OPEN CASE_OPEN --assess--> CASE_RULED CASE_RULED --challenge (round < max)--> CASE_RULED (re-ruled, tighter) CASE_RULED --challenge (rounds exhausted OR every party has challenged)--> CASE_DEADLOCKED CASE_DEADLOCKED --reviewer_ruling--> CASE_SETTLED CASE_RULED --request_finalize + finalize--> CASE_SETTLED SETTLEMENT AUTHORIZATION ------------------------ Adjudication is open; *settlement* is not. Two rules make the lifecycle safe without depending on a wall clock (which a deterministic VM should not trust): * Challenging is restricted to the case parties (requester, reviewer, owner) and each address may consume at most ONE challenge round per case. No single address can therefore burn a case through every round to force DEADLOCKED. The round ladder is sized to that cap (MAX_ROUNDS == MAX_PARTIES == 3), and a case also deadlocks once every *distinct* party has spent its challenge, so the DEADLOCKED -> reviewer_ruling settlement path is always reachable and a case can never sit in CASE_RULED with no one left able to dispute it. * Finalizing needs two-party assent: one party calls `request_finalize`, a *different* party calls `finalize`. The reviewer — the neutral already trusted to settle deadlocks — may finalize unilaterally, and once rounds are exhausted any party may finalize since no further challenge is possible. This is the deadline substitute: the counterparty of the requester always holds a veto for as long as challenges remain available. Reviewer settlements are held to the same score->level invariant the network rulings are held to (`_enforce_score_level`), so a reviewer cannot record a CRITICAL label against a score of 3 and desynchronize consumers from the contract's own published mapping. STORAGE NOTE ------------ Every stored field is a primitive (str / u8 / u256 / Address). Lists live as JSON strings and the ruling history lives in a top-level `DynArray[str]` keyed by case id, rather than as nested collections inside a stored dataclass. That keeps the storage schema flat and unambiguous, which is what a primitive other contracts are expected to embed should look like.
